Children's book titled 'Red Riding Hood and the Sweet Little Wolf' with an illustration of Little Red Riding Hood and a purple wolf on the cover.

Red Riding Hood and the Sweet Little Wolf

Every child can describe the Big Bad Wolf with his big ears, big eyes, and really big teeth! I decided my wolf would be a fan of fairytales and dressing up instead, so when she gets sent out to bring back dinner the story has a very different ending.

I am incredibly lucky to have had three of my fairytales illustrated by the multi award winning Liz Pichon now best known for her Tom Gates series. You can see the humour she brings to every character.

Red riding hood in a yellow dress reading a book, carrying a basket of apples, next to a dancing purple wolf with flowers.

When she hears Little Red reading in the woods she forgets about bringing home dinner and follows the story to Grandma’s house. Once inside, she remembers her task. She practises being fierce but when she falls asleep on Grandma’s bed wearing a pink dressing gown and flowery nightcap there’s a huge commotion. Will the woodcutter be on his way? Or will there be a happy ending for Red Riding Hood and the Sweet Little Wolf?

“This story was actually inspired by children in a nursery I visited who were very frightened of the big bad wolf. So I decided to create a character who loved fairy tales and dressing up instead of eating little girls.”
